Local mum smashes fundraising target in 100-mile charity cycle

12/8/2019

Isle of Man mum Caroline Kneen tackled the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 over the weekend, with support from the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.

Raising money for Mothers’ Union Isle of Man, mum-of-two Caroline, side-by-side with thousands of competitors of varying ages and abilities, followed a 100-mile cycle route through the English capital, all the way down to Surrey and back to the centre of London in a time of seven hours and 37 minutes.

With an initial fundraising target of £500, Caroline has raised more than £700, with the final total yet to be announced. Isle of Man Steam Packet Company offered its support by providing travel assistance as she travelled to and from the UK.

Mothers' Union is an international Christian movement of more than four million people in 84 countries worldwide. It aims to strengthen communities both globally and locally, help the most disadvantaged, shape how we advocate for the rights of families and build supportive, loving relationships across its network.

Caroline, who lives in Port Erin, is a member of the Mothers' Union Isle of Man and a keen supporter of its work, often getting involved with local projects. This includes the charity’s dedicated work at the Isle of Man Prison, which aims to help families sustain and develop their relationships while separated by imprisonment.

Caroline explained: ‘Mothers' Union is a truly inspirational movement which conducts incredible work both in the local community and on a global scale. I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to raise money for the cause while challenging myself both physically and mentally on the 100-mile ride.

‘Although testing at times, the fundraiser has been a great success and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the process - from organising the raffle and coffee morning earlier in the year to the ride itself. I’d like to say a huge thank you to the Steam Packet Company for its generous sponsorship, it has really helped.’

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward added: ‘A 100-mile cycle is no mean feat so well done Caroline for such a fantastic effort at the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100, and congratulations for raising a fantastic amount for the chosen charity.’
