Further Update on Manxman Dry Dock Maintenance Programme

Further to the media statement issued on Wednesday 23 July, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company can now provide  further information on the Manxman’s ongoing maintenance programme in dry dock.

As part of the scheduled works, Manxman's propulsion shaft bearings were removed for inspection. During this process, engineers identified areas of wear on the shaft bearings and associated shaft liners, components which were not accessible to inspect until the process of disassembly had begun. Shaft liners are protective components designed to absorb wear and safeguard the vessel's main propulsion shafts. The inspection of these components has now provided specialist engineers with a clear understanding of the work required, enabling them to define the scope of repairs and estimated timelines for completion.

Specialist repair and machining work is now under way as part of a clearly defined schedule of works. Given the complexity of repairs, dry docking facilities and the logistical challenges associated with sourcing specialist components and support from suppliers based in the UK and Europe, the Company currently estimates that Manxman will not return into service until late September 2026. This is of course hugely disappointing news for our customers, however the Company’s overriding priority is focused on working with the specialist engineers to complete these essential repairs safely and to the highest standard, ensuring Manxman's long-term reliability and performance.

Ben-my-Chree will continue to operate all Heysham sailings, while Arrow arrives on the Island today, Tuesday 28 July, to provide additional support for freight services to and from the UK.

Over the coming weeks our Reservations Team will continue to work closely with customers affected by vessel changes or any necessary cancellations as a result of Manxman’s delayed return to service. Customers impacted by any changes to our schedules will be contacted by our Reservations Team and advised of the travel options available to them.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company would again like to apologise for the disruption caused to customers and thank them for their continued patience and understanding while these essential repairs are completed.
