Steam Packet Company provides invaluable community support in 2018

17/12/2018

From weird and wonderful theatre to thought-provoking exhibitions, brass bands, puppeteers, sports stars, charity workers, skydiving fundraisers and lemurs, it’s been another busy year for the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.

During 2018 it has supported a wide array of community projects and initiatives.

The Company annually provides prize vouchers for fundraising raffles and competitions, as well as discounted or free travel to charitable and community groups and schemes.

Some examples of the projects it has helped in 2018:

  • a visit for a group of veterans with life-changing injuries, sustained while serving in the line of duty, to attend the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Southern 100 International Road Races
  • an animal rescue charity to help re-home two pups in the Isle of Man
  • a group of three old school friends who cycled the 170-mile ‘Way of the Roses’ to raise funds for three local charities
  • multiple productions at the Gaiety Theatre, including adult puppet comedy Avenue Q (Shoestring Productions) and Back To The 80s (Centre Stage)
  • touring skateboard and scooter instructors for workshops at Ballakermeen High School
  • regular travel support for TT favourite ‘Ramsey Rocket’ Conor Cummins, professional Isle of Man golfer Tom Gandy and pro-cyclist Tom Mazzone
  • children at Ballacottier Primary School to attend an international music and folk dance festival in Wales involving more than 4,000 participants
  • helping to bring ‘Awakening’, one of the most renowned modern art collections in Britain to the Isle of Man
  • teaming up with League Two football club Morecambe F.C. to bring its soccer camp back to the island for young footballers aged 6-12 years

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘Supporting the island community is something that is very close to our hearts and this year just goes to show why the Steam Packet Company is such an integral part of that community.

‘The role it plays supporting individuals, organisations and events is incredibly diverse and we look forward to continuing our community support in 2019.’
