Steam Packet Company supports charity drive of a lifetime

4/9/2018

Two friends will follow in the footsteps of 007 this week on a drive of a lifetime, to raise money for Hospice Isle of Man and Rebecca House.

Georgie Shelley and Voirrey Kennaugh will take on a gruelling four-day rally across eight countries from 6-10 September, as part of the James Bond Swiss Run - Fireball Rally. Journeying more than 2,500 miles across France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium, the pair will enjoy some of James Bond’s most iconic locations including the Piz Gloria, the revolving restaurant as seen in the sixth Bond-film - On Her Majesty’s Secret Service - and the Goldeneye Dam.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is supporting the trip by assisting with the cost of return travel to and from the island.

Georgie said: ‘As I work and volunteer at Hospice Isle of Man, I am aware of the great care that it provides and the difference it makes to both patients and families. It has inspired me to do something a bit different to raise money for the charity.

‘I am also doing this challenge in memory of my father Stanley Shelley, who loved and appreciated cars, especially classics – I’d like to think he would have enjoyed taking part in this event himself.

‘A huge thank you to the Steam Packet Company for its support of our trip, we are incredibly grateful. It is going to be a tough four days, averaging eight hours of driving per day, plus the return drive from Isle of Man to Dover – but I have no doubt it will be an unforgettable experience seeing some amazing places.’

Chief Executive of Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Mark Woodward added: ‘The James Bond Swiss Run is a challenging endurance event but I am sure the pair will see and do some incredible things. Hospice Isle of Man and Rebecca House are two important island facilities and it is great to see two friends doing what they can to raise money for something they are passionate about – I wish them the best of luck.’
