The Steam Packet Company is helping the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games shooting team take aim at medals in the Gold Coast next month.
The Company is supporting the team by transporting a car carrying its firearms to the UK, after which the firearms will be flown to Brisbane, Australia, to meet up with the squad members.
Getting underway on Wednesday, April 4th, the 21st Commonwealth Games will see 33 of the Island’s finest sports stars competing across a range of disciplines.
IOM Commonwealth Games shooting team manager Harry Creevy said: ‘We are grateful to the Steam Packet Company for offering to support our team’s Commonwealth Games bid by transporting the firearms. Sending a squad to the Commonwealth Games carries with it a significant cost, particularly when the Games are taking place on the other side of the world. This means the support shown by companies like the Steam Packet Company is invaluable and ensures our shooting team members will have everything they need as they bid to bring home some medals.’
Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘The Commonwealth Games is one of those rare global sporting events where local athletes can compete for the Isle of Man. We have always tried to support the Island’s Commonwealth Games team over the years, and are proud to be able to offer our assistance again for the Gold Coast next month.’
