The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is extending its thanks to the public after it received an almost incredible response to its consultation on the future of ferry services, demonstrating the vital importance of sea links to the Island’s residents, visitors, businesses, and wider community.

By the close of the consultation on 4 February, more than 4,500 responses had been submitted in total. Over 2,000 responses were received within the first 12 hours, showing the level of interest in the Company’s future fleet. The record-breaking volume of feedback highlights just how central ferry services are to life on the Isle of Man.

Although it is too early for drawing firm conclusions, some clear themes are emerging from the results:
●    All-year, all-weather operations are a priority for the public.
●    Travel time is a major factor in travelling decisions, with many responses emphasising the need to adhere to Manannan’s twice daily service to Liverpool in peak season.
●    There is strong support for an all-year service to Liverpool.

Importantly, the consultation attracted input from a broad range of people: although the majority are on-island, some 30% of completed surveys came from off-island including TT visitors and marshals, former residents, friends and relatives of locals, tourists, and business travellers.

A full analysis of all submissions will be completed now the consultation has closed. The Company has committed to publishing a public summary of the findings, reinforcing its transparent approach to planning the Island’s ferry services.
