Manxman Update
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company continues to keep customers and stakeholders updated on the progress of repairs to Manxman and this update relates to the start of reassembly works and the vessel's planned movements within the shipyard over the coming week.
Both of the vessel's propeller shafts have now arrived in the Balaena Birkenhead shipyard from Marine Shaft Denmark. The next step will be to fit the propeller components onto the shafts, a process which will take place in the shipyard ahead of the dry docking.
On Sunday 11th October, Manxman left its berth in the the wet basin of the dock yard and moved a short distance along the river to Gladstone Dock. Due to limited berth availability, and while the shipyard repositions other vessels to make the dry dock available, Manxman is expected to remain in Gladstone Dock until Wednesday, 15th October. As Manxman is currently without her propeller shafts, and similar to its previous movements, this positioning will be carried out with the assistance of three tugs.
Once in dry dock the complex process of reinstallation of the shafts, bearings and completion of other external works will begin, with the target of completing inspections, sea trials and return to service from the end of November.
