The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company can confirm that Manxman has entered dry dock at Balaena Birkenhead, where her two propulsion shafts, liners and bearings, now repaired in Denmark, will be refitted.

The repairs were carried out by MarineShaft A/S of Hirtshals, Denmark, a specialist marine engineering firm who are one of the leading experts in the field and fully equipped to carry out the repairs to the exacting standards required by the Company and its regulators. MarineShaft engineers will also carry out precision machining of the shaft bearing housings on board.

While the shafts are being reinstalled, work will also be undertaken on Manxman’s propellers to ensure they meet the required operational and regulatory standards before the vessel returns to service.

Robert Griffiths Project Director, Balaena, said:

“We were pleased to reach a critical project milestone when MV Manxman successfully departed our wet basin facility and moved across to the Liverpool Dock System.

The vessel then entered No. 5 Dry Dock in preparation for the installation of her newly refurbished tail shafts, following their repair by the team at Marine Shaft AS.

Looking ahead, an extensive dry dock program awaits - including precision in situ machining and the installation of new bushes before the tail shafts are fitted.

A massive thank you to the shipyard management, IOMSPC, and Marine Shaft AS for the incredible effort, teamwork, and coordination to get us to this stage.”
