Record breaking donation to MGP charity from IOMSPC passengers

3/10/2019

Generous Isle of Man Steam Packet Company passengers have raised a record-breaking amount for a high-profile road racing charity.

During the 2019 Festival of Motorcycling, crews on board both Manannan and Ben-my-Chree coordinated collections and kind-hearted travellers donated a total of £13,180.37 – £500 more than last year.

It’s the highest total ever raised for the Manx Grand Prix Supporters Club during the two-week period and will help the club assist injured riders and bereaved families, as well as contribute towards the cost of hiring rescue helicopters for the event.

Over the years the charity, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2015, has donated more than £950,000 to organisers the Manx Motorcycle Club to help with its costs for the MGP.

Supporters’ Club chairman Allan Brew said: ‘We really are touched by the generosity of the passengers on board the Isle of Man Steam Packet ships, as well as the management, staff and crew for allowing this to happen.

‘Fundraising like this really does have a direct impact on our ability to support causes such as funding the rescue helicopters, helping injured MGP riders and providing essential medical equipment.

‘It is a wonderful record amount and a sincere thank you.’

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward added: ‘It is very clear that there is a great deal of support for the Manx Grand Prix Supporters Club and the work it undertakes, not just during the fortnight but the whole year.

‘‘Once again, our passengers have reflected that and I would like to thank everyone who generously donated, as well as all members of crew and staff involved. We are delighted to be able to play our part by coordinating these collections.’
