Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Supports Almost 50 Local Community Initiatives in 2026

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is proud to announce that it is supporting almost 50 local charities, community groups and initiatives in 2026 so far, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to the Island’s people, events and organisations.

Earlier this year, the Company refreshed its Manx Community Assistance (MCA) Scheme to make the process simpler and more accessible for applicants. The updated scheme introduced a dedicated application window, clearer eligibility criteria and a move to travel vouchers, giving successful applicants greater flexibility to plan their travel.

A Strong Year of Community Support

Following the first 2026 MCA application window, 16 organisations were awarded support from a total of 36 applications, with decisions confirmed in April. These successful applicants join a further 32 initiatives that were supported earlier in the year under the previous format of the scheme.

Together, this brings the total number of local causes supported by the Steam Packet Company in 2026 to almost 50.

In addition to the MCA Scheme, the Company continues to support the Island’s community through its Supported Sports Scheme and fundraising travel vouchers, helping clubs, individuals and organisations represent the Isle of Man both on and off the Island.

Supporting What Matters Locally

The Steam Packet Company is proud to support a diverse range of initiatives that enhance the quality of life on the Isle of Man and make a meaningful difference in the community.

Some of the initiatives supported in 2026 include:

  • Manx Youth Band & Manx Concert Brass – Manx Youth Band and Manx Concert Brass competed at the Fleetwood Brass Band Contest, supporting their participation in a major UK event and providing valuable performance experience at both 4th and Championship levels.
  • Rushen Players Amateur Dramatic Society – Supporting travel for their award-winning one-act play Blood of the Lamb, following its success at the Manx Amateur Drama Federation Festival and qualification for the All England Theatre Festival finals.
  • Isle of Man Men’s, Women’s & U18 Basketball Teams – Supporting off-island travel for international competition and development opportunities, including Commonwealth Games qualifiers and a UK residential training camp.
  • Manx Mencap – Supporting a group day trip to Knowsley Safari Park for adults with learning disabilities, offering a rare opportunity for social connection and a shared day out beyond the Island.

From grassroots charities and cultural events to sporting opportunities and community-led projects, the range of support reflects the breadth and vibrancy of the Island’s community spirit.

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Managing Director, Brian Thomson, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to support almost 50 local causes so far this year. The passion and dedication shown by organisations across the Island is truly inspiring, and we’re committed to continuing to support initiatives that make a positive impact on our community.”

A Continued Commitment to the Island

The Steam Packet Company has a long and proud history of supporting the local community, spanning more than a century. That commitment remains as strong as ever, with community support firmly embedded in the Company’s values.

By evolving the Manx Community Assistance Scheme, the Company aims not only to provide practical support, but also to amplify the stories of the organisations and individuals making a positive difference across the Island.

What’s Next

While the first application window for 2026 has now closed, there is another opportunity for organisations to apply this year, with a second application window opening soon.
