Belfast City MarathonWe are a proud supporter of the local community and each year take great joy in celebrating the Isle of Man’s wonderful diversity in sport, the arts, culture and community spirit through our wide-ranging support of individuals and groups, events, charities and good causes.
As part of this commitment we support a number of talented local individuals – Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Champions – who receive fully sponsored ferry travel each year so they can compete in events on and off the Island.
The ‘Ramsey Rocket’ and Manx motorcycling favourite Conor Cummins is one of the individuals that benefits from supported travel; allowing him to compete at events locally and across the water.
In what has been a really testing year which has affected our Champions in a variety of ways, we caught up with them to find out how their season is going, how the pandemic has impacted them and what they have planned for next year. Let’s see how Conor has got on.
Yes, fortunately we have been able to factor in those valuable British Superbike Championship race meetings and had our first race at Cadwell Park in August. It’s a physical circuit but we learnt a lot about our new Honda CBR 1000cc Fireblade. We came away with a solid result and brilliant track time, which we followed up with at Snetterton for the next round in September.
COVID-19 has raised some challenges for my 2021 season but none that have caused any great setbacks. Our plan was always to enter a number of British Superbike Superstock rounds to get some much-needed track time with the objective of increasing my speed for 2022. Thanks to the great support of the Steam Packet Company, I have been able to travel and get my season going.
We will compete in two more British Superbike Championship rounds to see out the year with an aim of achieving a great understanding of the new bikes, which we can then put to good use at TT 2022 where we want to take home some wins. My Milenco by Padgetts bikes are working brilliantly and we are definitely heading in the right direction for a successful 2022.
