So, it makes sense why you’d want to make the most of being in nature by camping while on your trip. We’ve narrowed down a list of 10 of the best campsites on the Isle of Man, so no matter where your base is, you can be assured of a great place to stay.

1. Glenlough Campsite

Address: Ballahutchin Hill, Union Mills, Isle of Man, IM4 4AT

Open: End of March till the middle of October

This family-run campsite has plenty of room for everyone, with 250 pitches and lots of space. It’s only three miles from Douglas, the Isle of Man’s capital, with buses stopping regularly outside the entrance, so it’s easy to reach whether you drive or take public transport. And the village of Union Mills is a short walk away, with a local shop, post office, pub and petrol station.

Prices start from £12 per person per night.

Things to do

  • Explore the glen next to the campsite.
  • Walk part or all of the Manx Heritage Trail, which runs through the countryside close to the campsite.
  • Head into nearby Douglas.

2. Silly Moos Campsite 

Address: West Kimmeragh Road, Andreas, Isle of Man, IM7 4BB 

Open: Mid-May to early September 

Nestled in the countryside in the north of the island, Silly Moos Campsite has space for all sorts of accommodation, including tents, caravans and motorhomes. With views looking out towards the hills and a level field providing easy access for seniors and anyone with mobility issues, you don’t have to compromise on comfort or atmosphere. 

Prices start from £15 per person per night. 

Things to do 

  • Take a stroll on Blue Point Beach or Ramsey Beach, which both have golden sands and plenty of fresh sea air. 
  • Visit Point of Ayre, the northernmost tip of the Isle of Man, where a lighthouse stands tall against the coastline. 
  • History buffs will enjoy the Aviation & Military Museum, which tells the stories of local people who fought in wartime.

3. Glen Wyllin Campsite 

Address: Glen Wyllin Camp Site, Glen Wyllin, Kirk Michael, IM6 1AL 

Open: 1st April to 30th September 

Located in one of the Manx National Glens, Glen Wyllin campsite’s picturesque surroundings, complete with trees and a gently running stream, will help to create that magical holiday escapism. Bring your own tent or motorhome, or choose one of their furnished tents or cabins if you’d like to go down the glamping route. 

Prices start from £13.50 per person per night. 

Things to do 

  • Spend time on Glen Wyllin beach. A short walk from the campsite, it’s particularly beautiful at sunset. 
  • Explore Cooildarry Nature Reserve and admire the beautiful plants and flowers (bluebells and primroses bloom in spring). 
  • Go for a walk in the valley and see what wildlife and birds you can spot – foxes, badgers, red deer, skylarks, curlews and lapwings have all been known to roam here.

4. Peel Campsite 

Address: Peel Camping Park, Derby Road, Peel, Isle of Man, IM5 1RG 

Open: End of March till end of September 

There’s plenty of space at Peel Campsite, with three grass fields plus a hardstanding area – tents, motorhomes and caravans are all welcome. The site is easy to reach by bus from Ramsey or Douglas and is close to amenities, so you can enjoy your coastal escape without missing out on anything you might need. There’s even a swimming pool and play area next door, making it ideal for families with young children.

Things to do 

  • Take a trip to the beach – Fenella Beach, Peel Beach and White Strand Beach are all close by. 
  • Explore Peel Castle, which sits on St Patrick’s Isle just off the coast of Peel. The castle was originally built in the 12th century, with different parts added over the decades and centuries after.  
  • Go for a walk along the clifftop and enjoy the views (just be careful in windy weather).

5. Cronk Aashen Campsite 

Address: Cronk Aashen, Barregarrow, Kirk Michael, Isle of Man, IM6 1HQ 

Open: All year round 

Two miles south of Kirk Michael, Cronk Aashen campsite is set on a small farm and spreads over 28 acres. With sea views and a wooded glen, you don’t need to choose between the coast or the countryside. They ask for quiet after 11pm, so you can enjoy your surroundings in peace. 

The campsite accepts motorhomes and tent pitches. Prices start from £10 per person per night. 

Things to do 

  • Watch the TT – the campsite is located close to the course, so it’s a great place for race fans to use as their base. 
  • Take on one of the nearby walking or cycling routes, and enjoy the fresh air and scenery. 
  • Head into the nearby Kirk Michael and enjoy the sandy beach.

6. Ballaugh Campsite 

Address: Glen Road, Ballaugh, Isle of Man, IM7 5JG 

Open: Beginning of April till the end of September 

Located in Ballaugh village, on Ballamoar Farm, Ballaugh Campsite makes a great base whether you’re in Isle of Man to see the sights or watch the racing – it's close to the Ballaugh Bridge vantage points for both the TT and Manx Grand Prix. 

This family-owned-and-run site allows you to pitch your own tent or use one of their camping pods or bell tents. While there’s a shop and a pub nearby, you’ll still close enough to nature for it to feel like a true escape from everyday life. 

Things to do 

  • Watch the spectacular sunset while sitting on Ballaugh Beach. 
  • Visit Curraghs Wildlife Park, where you can see owls, lemurs, penguins, meerkats, wallabies and plenty of other fascinating creatures. 
  • Go on the Ballaugh Blackberry Walk (don’t forget to take a container for the blackberries if you go in autumn).

7. Laxey Campsite

Open: Beginning of April till end of October 

Retreat to Laxey village when you stay at Laxey Campsite. It’s close enough to Douglas and Ramsey that you won’t be short of things to do, but quiet enough to help you enjoy some holiday relaxation. The beach is a short walk away, along with everything the village has to offer.

  • Follow one of the many walking routes in the area: through the woods, along the riverbank, or to and along the beach. 
  • Visit the Laxey Wheel, famous for being the world’s largest working water wheel.

8. Sulby River Farm Campsite 

Address: Sulby River Farm, Bernahara Road, Ramsey, Isle of Man, IM7 2AT 

Open: Beginning of April till the end of September 

Sulby River Farm Campsite sits along the Sulby River on a family-run farmstead. You’ll see everyone in the farm going about their day-to-day duties: growing fresh vegetables, looking after the bees, and keeping the Loaghtan sheep. There’s space for a small number of campers, so the overall atmosphere is peaceful and relaxed. 

Things to do 

  • Watch the TT or Manx Grand Prix – the campsite is located along the Glen Duff section of course. 
  • Make use of the campsite’s BBQ area and cook up an outdoor feast. 
  • Explore the walking trails in Sulby Glen.
