The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is providing further details on the technical incident that led to the cancellation of Tuesday morning’s 08:45 departure to Heysham.
During the 02:15 sailing from Heysham to Douglas, smoke was detected in a machinery space within Manxman.
Standard safety procedures were activated, including a muster of all passengers at emergency stations.
This also triggered the shoreside emergency response process.
The vessel was able to proceed as normal to its berth in Douglas, at a reduced speed, and carried out its mooring operations unaided although a tug was requested to stand by as a standard precaution.
All passengers were able to disembark as normal. No passengers or crew were injured and there was no threat to the overall safety of the vessel.
The relevant authorities have been kept informed throughout.
Investigations into the cause of the incident are underway, and the Company is liaising with equipment manufacturers to ensure the vessel is ready to return to sea at the earliest opportunity.
The emergency response process has been stood down and the Company is now focused on ensuring contingency plans are implemented and services are able to continue with minimum disruption.
Manannan’s sailings for 19th August 2025 have been rescheduled to facilitate the transfer of as many passengers as possible.
A further update on schedules will follow at 13:00 (19/08/25)
