Isle of Man Steam Packet Company provides update on Manannan technical issues
Following the cancellation of Sunday and Monday’s Manannan sailings due to the failure of one of the vessel’s generators on Saturday, Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is able to provide an update on progress to resolve the issue.
Company engineering crew, supported by the shoreside workshop team spent Sunday investigating the source of the technical failure and starting to resolve it.
Engineers and Workshop team are in the process of swapping out one of the generator sets with the spare unit kept ashore. This is a major undertaking which commenced on Sunday and will see the unit installed today. Additional fitting work and commissioning work will be ongoing.
In order to expedite repairs, IOMSPC is also flying in specialist electrical engineers this afternoon to perform further diagnostic checks and assist in fixing the issue.
While the Company is optimistic this issue can be quickly resolved, until the specialist engineers are on site it is not possible to give a definitive timeline.
At the same time, the electrical engineering team are taking the opportunity to tackle an ongoing electrical issue with another of the vessel’s generator sets. This improves the chances of having sufficient generator capacity to resume service at the earliest opportunity.
Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Managing Director Brian Thomson commented, ‘The team has been working hard to resolve this situation as we’re well aware of how critical this time of year is for holidaymakers travelling in both directions. We’re doing everything we can to minimise disruption and return to normal service as soon as possible.’
A further update on progress will be provided as soon as possible.
