Delays and DisruptionsUpdate 18:15 20/08/2025
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is providing a progress update on return to normal service as it responds to the various operational challenges that have affected travel plans over the past 36 hours.
Ben-my-Chree’s delayed 09:45 departure from Douglas arrived in Heysham just before 1700 today (Wednesday 20th August). The return sailing from Heysham is currently due to arrive in Douglas at approximately 23:30.
This follows successful repairs to accidental damage caused to Ben-my-Chree’s firefighting equipment during freight loading operations at Heysham on Wednesday morning.
Ben-my-Chree was brought into passenger service in order to provide cover for flagship Manxman after it was sidelined by an electrical component failure in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The component failure emitted smoke in an engineering space that triggered emergency procedures.
Spare parts to replace the failed components on Manxman have now arrived on island via specially chartered courier service. The service engineer has arrived on the vessel in order to complete the repairs.
Provided these progress as expected, Manxman is scheduled to undertake a short series of sea trials this evening, ahead of Ben-my-Chree’s return to Douglas.
If the sea trials are satisfactory Manxman will resume service with Thursday’s 08:30 departure to Heysham.
Ben-my-Chree will then resume a freight-only service to and from Heysham, in support of Manxman during the busy Grand Prix and Classic TT period.
Manannan’s services to Dublin and Liverpool today have been impacted by the delays that originated with the accidental damage to Ben-my-Chree in Heysham on Wednesday morning. It is expected Manannan will resume its normal schedule from the 07:30 departure to Liverpool tomorrow (Thursday).
Once again, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company would like to extend its thanks to the travelling public for their patience and understanding as it responds to a challenging set of circumstances.
