We are very proud to share the news that our flagship Manxman has won a prestigious accolade at the Shippax Awards, a global ferry awards which recognises innovation and design on newly-delivered ferries.
Manxman won the ‘Shippax Ro-Pax Award 2024’, being recognised as the best and most innovative Ro-Pax (roll-on/roll off freight and passenger ferry) vessel in its class in the world for 2024.
The award was presented to our Managing Director Brian Thomson during the annual Shippax Ferry Conference, which took place last week onboard the Tallink Cruise Ferry ‘Baltic Queen’ in Sweden and was attended by hundreds of delegates from around the world.
Brian said: “It is a huge honour that Manxman has been recognised for this prestigious award. It is a credit to everyone in the Company and we are proud of designing, delivering and operating such an excellent vessel, which is the largest, most-modern and best-equipped ferry the island has ever had.”
Manxman received specific acknowledgement for its clever use of space which combines room for entertainment, families, and quiet spaces that cater to the needs of diverse categories of passenger, through its variety of cabins and lounges that give Manxman a ‘touch of cruising’.
Shippax is the world’s premier ferry information service, providing a trusted source for industry news, statistics and best practice. The awards are given across a range of categories and judged by an expert panel. The panel of judges assess qualifications based on experience, personal visits, general arrangement plan examinations as well as collecting research material. The jury travels with the ships anonymously and the impartial result of the jury is extensively discussed amongst them prior to the ultimate decision.
As well as a trophy, we have received a special commendation plaque to display on Manxman, which will be proudly displayed to the hundreds of thousands of passengers who will travel on board.
Manxman was introduced to our fleet of vessels last year and has capacity to accommodate 948 passengers (300 more than Ben-my-Chree), and 52 crew, and boasts an array of modern amenities and facilities designed to enhance the travel experience.
As well as the onboard passenger experience, Manxman was built to include the latest advances in ship management systems and is powered by the world’s most efficient four-stroke diesel engine, which is recognised for its high level of fuel efficiency and significantly reduces exhaust emissions, helping us to deliver a far more sustainable and environmentally friendly operation.
With TT just around the corner, we’re particularly excited to welcome passengers on board Manxman and showcase its award-winning facilities.
