Career Opportunities with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company

The Technical Manager is a senior role in the Fleet Operations department. Applicants need to be open to a flexible approach to working as some out of hours and on call periods will be required. Periods of travel off Island are also required for meetings, dockings etc

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Marine Manager to ensure that Company vessels, linkspans and port installations are maintained to the standards required to ensure a safe, reliable and effective service is maintained at all times.
  • Responsible for maintaining Company vessels in good order and fit for purpose ensuring that all Statutory and Class Surveys are carried out in a timely and effective manner.
  • Undertake the preparation and execution of dry-docking events including all aspects of project management from planning, budget setting and control through to completion.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Company Safety and Environmental Policy is understood and implemented by all relevant shore based and sea-going personnel under his/her control,and that all the requirements of the ISM Code are implemented and maintained.
  • Contribute to the continued effectiveness of the Company’s Safety Management System by attending Management Review Meetings.
  • Ensures that all Company personnel under his/her responsibility meet their commitments to the Company’s Safety Management System.
  • Responsible for the identification of training needs for all personnel under his/her control within the Safety Management System.
  • Ensuring relevant technical Non-Conformances are identified, recorded and analysed and that all necessary precautions have been taken to prevent recurrence.
  • Responsible for undertaking investigations into any major machinery failures.
  • Acting as the Deputy DPA/CSO undertaking these roles when rostered and during periods of
    official leave.


Skills and Qualifications

The skills and qualifications that the Technical Manager are expected to have include:

  • Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency or equivalent
  • Marine background with senior seagoing experience
  • Experience in Ro-Pax operations preferably in Northern Europe
  • Highly developed organisational and communication skills
  • Works well under pressure and able to multi task
  • Strong communication skills
