Reporting directly to the Managing Director for the execution of their duties. for the delivery of all operational responsibilities (both ashore and on ship) in accordance with Company strategy, regulatory and contractual obligations, and operational priorities.
Operational Leadership
Provide oversight, leadership, and direction to guide the operations team, while ensuring continuous improvement across the areas of responsibility and forward planning and strategic input to the future direction of Company services. (Leading the activities of the vessel and ports operations in accordance with the SSA, safely, with minimum impact to the environment and within operational budget constructively minimising operational risks).
Responsible for overall efficient and safe operation of the Company’s vessels, ports, and associated shore-based operational activities, ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, and Company requirements.
Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with shipboard and shore-based teams to promote effective communication, engagement, and alignment across all operational functions.
Operations
• To understand the duties and responsibilities of the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) and Company Security Officer (CSO).
• Lead all aspects of daily ferry operations and with the support of the Fleet and Shore Operations Managers, ensure that vessel and port operations are delivered safely, reliably, and punctually in line with the Balanced Score Card (BSC), agreed schedules, and performance targets.
• Oversee and support Fleet and Shore Operations Managers with robust voyage and harbourside planning, weather assessments, and operational readiness.
• Oversight of Technical Management to ensure vessel availability, maintenance planning, dry-dock scheduling and asset reliability.
• Responsibility and oversight of operational contracts and supplier performance, including port agreements, fuel supply, marine service providers and IT vendors. Monitoring compliance with contractual obligations.
• Managing relationships with ports, harbour authorities, service partners and regulatory stakeholders.
Performance & Financial Management
• Responsible for effective financial management of Company budgets within their direct and indirect control.
• Ensure cost -effective deployment of resources, offering support and challenge to budgets and business case applications. Identify opportunities to streamline operations to reduce costs or drive service improvements.
• Develop and monitor a set of operational KPI’s for regular reporting in line with the requirements of the Company.
Business Continuity
• Act as operational lead for emergency preparedness, incident response, and crisis management. Ensuring that business continuity plans are maintained and regularly tested across both ship and shore operations.
Strategic Planning
• Contribute to long-term operational strategy, including fleet strategy, terminal development, digital systems, and sustainability initiatives.
