Career Opportunities with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company

The Company are recruiting for the position of Fleet Operations Manager.

The main responsibilities of the Fleet Operations Manager will be:

  • Responsible to the Head of Ops for the execution of his/her duties.
  • Work closely with the Technical Manager and Ship Manager to ensure that Company vessels, linkspans and port installations are maintained to the levels required to ensure a safe, reliable and effective service at all times, in relation to marine aspects.
  • Managing incidents and emergencies, instigating investigations and working with the Marine manager, incorporating findings into the management system.
  • Advising the Marine Manager with tasks relating to ISPS.
  • Assist the Head of Operations, providing advice to the Board regarding fleet
    replacement strategy and management of the same. (Providing operational advice to the board of directors, plan and develop new ideas based on leading market and industry thinking).
  • Responsible for liaison with Harbour Authorities and vessel masters as it affects
    navigation and safety.
  • Responsible for Steam Packet workshops.
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with ship and shore staff to improve the level of communication within the Company.
  • Provide leadership, vision and direction to help guide the ship operations.
  • Responsible for the identification of training needs for all personnel under his/her
    control within the Safety Management System.
  • Responsible as Designated Person Ashore (DPA) and for ensuring that the Company Safety and Environmental Policy is understood and implemented by all necessary shore based and sea-going personnel and that all requirements of the ISM Code are implemented and maintained.
  • Ensuring current and future vessels comply with the latest rules and regulations and reporting any imminent changes which will affect the current fleet.
  • Ensure the provision of suitable shore-based advice, support and resources to the
    Company vessels in order to maintain a safe and reliable operation.
  • Responsible for effective and efficient financial management of Company budgets
    within his/her control.

In addition Key Competencies will be:

  • Responsibility for ensuring that all statutory and class surveys are carried out in a
    timely and effective manner.
  • Responsibility for ensuring Company vessels are supplied with correct up to date and adequate charts and navigational publications as advised by the ship manager marine
  • Responsibility for ensuring that Company vessels manning levels meet regulatory
    and operational requirements.
  • Responsibility for Company owned link spans and fixed shore installations.
  • Responsibility for liaison with Harbour Authorities as it affects operations, navigation and safety.
  • Responsibility for ensuring that vessels are equipped to comply with current
    regulations regarding the carriage of dangerous goods.
  • Responsible for the identification of training needs for all personnel under his/her
    control within the Safety Management System.
  • Responsible for Steam Packet Workshops.

Pre-requisites:

  • Certificate of Competency (Master/ Chief Engineer) STCW10 or equivalent
    experience.
  • An industry recognised qualification at degree or similar level, and or relevant
    experience at vessel management/superintendence level.
  • Specific and demonstrable experience in managing and controlling large cost
    areas.
