ENJOY THIS CYCLIST'S PARADISE

The Isle of Man’s beautifully diverse countryside provides the perfect cycling destination for all ages and abilities, from rocky, mountainous terrains for off-road mountain bikers to winding country lanes for road cycling.

By travelling with us, your journey across with your bicycle is made easy. Simply ride on board and then relax in one of our lounges whilst enjoying the crossing. Not only is it simple, it is also great value as you can bring your bicycle for free.

ON THE ROAD

On the road, the terrain ranges from the flat north to the spectacular TT Mountain Circuit which not only tests motorcyclists each year, but is the ideal training ground for cyclists, providing a thrilling mix of winding country lanes, steep climbs, and breath-taking descents.

If you’re coming for a short break and would prefer to have your rides structured, there are six ‘cycle routes’ around the Island, graded for difficulty from easy to difficult, and taking in the north, south, east and west.

ISLE OF MAN CYCLING GUIDE

FAMOUS CYCLISTS

Olympic Gold Medalist Peter Kennaugh

The Isle of Man has a long tradition of producing fine cyclists, such as current aces Mark Cavendish and Peter Kennaugh, and you only need to look at the beautiful Manx countryside to see how that has happened.

Cycling is on such a roll around the British Isles, with recent back-to-back Tour de France winners and medals galore at the London Olympic Games. Leading the charge are Cavendish, former World Road Race Champion and winner of 30 Tour de France stages (second in the all-time list), and Kennaugh, Olympic gold medalist and former British Road Race Champion, who both plied their trade as youngsters on the Island’s roads.

But you don’t have to be an Olympic champion or Tour de France yellow jersey winner to enjoy what the Island has to offer. Whatever your preference, one thing is for sure – the Isle of Man is an ideal destination for anyone who loves cycling.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

Perhaps you like your two-wheel action off road? There are several clearly marked green lanes where you can adventure into the hills to see even more of the Island, and you can join guided tours of these trails with a local expert if you prefer. There are miles and miles of coastal paths, forest trails, old railway tracks and trails purpose-built for mountain biking – all showcasing the Manx countryside in all its splendour.

If you are planning a dirt bike trip to the Island, it’s important that you check in advance which routes are open and, if possible, get in touch with one of the local clubs and see if you can join an organised ride.
