Villa Marina to jump to classic hits in 2020

19/2/2020

The Villa Marina will be bouncing to the sound of a true rock legend and one of the best tribute acts in Britain later this year, thanks to the support of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.

It is partnering with the VillaGaiety to bring to the Island one of the greatest vocalists in rock history, Robert Plant, and his new band Saving Grace (featuring Robert Plant and Suzi Dian) for what’s expected to be a sell-out gig at the Villa this summer.

Now enjoying the fourth decade of a successful solo career, Plant is best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the rock band Led Zeppelin.

He and his innovative five-piece band Saving Grace will perform in the Royal Hall on Sunday, July 12th for a gig comprising blues music, along with a vocal harmony-laden selection of diverse covers including classics, American folk songs and spirituals.

The Company will also support the visit of a group widely considered the world’s Premier Beatles band, The Bootleg Beatles, during TT fortnight.

The band will take to the Villa stage on Saturday, May 30th.

Formed from the original cast of London’s West End multi-media stage show ’Beatlemania’, the Beatles mimics’ show features four distinct eras that encompass some of the most definitive moments in rock history and many of its most memorable songs.

In recent years, the ‘fab four’ have headlined Glastonbury’s acoustic stage, supported Oasis and shared stages with David Bowie, Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart and the Manic Street Preachers.

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘We are pleased to be partnering with the team at the Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre to bring a host of exciting acts across different genres to the Island in 2020.

‘The promoters have worked hard to secure what promises to be two exciting live music events. Not only is this an opportunity for locals to enjoy a concerts filled with classic songs, great music and a rock great with iconic vocals, but in the case of The Bootleg Beatles, also adds to the entertainment on offer to our visitors during TT fortnight.’

Graham Cregeen MHK, Minister for the Department of Education, Sport and Culture, which operates the venues, added: ‘Yet again during 2020, the team at the VillaGaiety is organising a number of high-profile events, many of which are in the pipeline.

‘Robert Plant’s new band has been receiving rave reviews, while the Bootleg Beatles are no strangers to the Island and are one of the world’s best cover acts. We are pleased to be working alongside the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and I’d like to thank them for their ongoing support, helping to ensure the Island can host such great live music events.’
