STATEMENT - LOW TAKE-UP FOR TODAY’S EXTRA MANANNAN SERVICE TO LIVERPOOL

15/9/2011

The number of passengers using today’s additional Liverpool service is low, with 37 booked on this morning’s 07.30 Douglas-Liverpool sailing, and 34 passengers booked for the return 11.15 sailing.

Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘We were happy to put on the additional sailing, as the adverse weather conditions earlier in the week caused the cancellation of several sailings.

‘However, as we always do, we looked to transfer passengers from those cancelled sailings to other services. It would seem, given the low number of passengers on today’s extra service to Liverpool, that our contingency plans for earlier this week have worked well and the vast majority of people who needed to get to and from the Island managed to do so.

‘I can also confirm that Manannan is now sailing on full power, using all four engines, after repairs to its gearbox were completed on Wednesday. Therefore, journey times for Manannan will revert to those advertised in our brochure and on www.steam-packet.com.
