ISLE OF MAN STEAM PACKET COMPANY CARRIES UNUSUAL CARGO

17/2/2009

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has delivered unusual cargo to the Isle of Man.

Around 800 square hay bales on a 19 metre-long extended road train were transported from Heysham on the Ben-my-Chree.

The cargo was brought over by the Southern 100 Motorcycle Racing Club as square hay bales were not available in the Island.

The bales will be used on events on the Billown circuit including the Pre TT Classic, the TT races and the Southern 100.

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive, Mark Woodward, said: ‘Motorcycle racing on the Billown circuit is important to the Isle of Man and without these hay bales it couldn’t take place, so we were more than happy to provide assistance towards the transportation.’

Southern 100 Motorcycle Racing Club President, Derek Nicholson, said: ‘The assistance from the Steam Packet Company was a huge help to us. We couldn’t get these bales on Island as the farmers have no square ones. These bales are essential to these races. If we don’t have them, we can’t race, it’s that simple.’
