Isle of Man Steam Packet Company to help DCU find ‘Holy Grail’

16/4/2019

The Gaiety Theatre will soon be full of wacky knights, extravagant show girls, catchy tunes and laugh-out loud humour, thanks to generous support from the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.

It is helping Douglas Choral Union (DCU) with its production of the musical comedy, Spamalot, which runs from Friday 3rd May until Saturday 11th May.

Adapted from the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the show tells the story of King Arthur and his motley crew of knights as they embark on an outrageous quest for the Holy Grail.

Like the motion picture, it is a highly irreverent parody of the Arthurian legend and received 14 Tony Awards nominations, winning in three categories, after debuting on Broadway in 2005.

The Steam Packet Company is assisting with transport costs of bringing sets, lighting, costumes and other equipment to the island.

DCU chairman Tony Jones said: ‘This production is another first for the Isle of Man and DCU is delighted to have been given the opportunity to perform the award-winning musical.

‘I hope audiences will enjoy the show as much as we will enjoy performing it.

‘We would like to thank the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company for its support. The generosity of our sponsors makes it possible to produce such fantastic shows and provide invaluable support to both the Society and the wider island community in helping maintain the exceptionally high standard of theatre in the Isle of Man.’

Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward added: ‘Our support for local theatre is just one of the many ways in which the Steam Packet Company is committed to supporting the Manx community each year. Spamalot will be a first for the island and we wish everyone involved a successful run.’

Tickets for Spamalot are available from the Villa Gaiety website – https://villagaiety.ticketsolve.com/shows/873599542/ - or from the Box Office on (01624) 600555.
