Free cancer information and support will be coming to towns across the Isle of Man next month.
Macmillan Cancer Support’s Mobile Information and Support Service (MISS) will be bringing their bus – called Basil – for his first visit to the island.
Basil and the MISS team of cancer information specialists will be touring the island, visiting Castletown, Peel and Ramsey, and will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns about cancer.
They will offer vital support, advice and information on a range of issues, including different treatments, financial advice, exercise, getting back to work, or what local services might be available.

Geri Timmis, a Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Specialist, said: “We are delighted to be returning to the Isle of Man, and bringing Basil for the first time, to visit towns across the island to provide free information and support.
“We’ll answer any questions or worries relating to cancer. No appointments are needed - just drop by and see us. So whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.”
Macmillan’s MISS team regularly visits the Isle of Man and last year set up information stands in Castletown, Douglas, Peel and Port Erin, as well as at the Classic TT. During their four day visit they interacted with 1,106 people.
This year the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is assisting with the cost of travel for Basil and the Macmillan team to and from the Isle of Man.
Mark Woodward, Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive, added: “We’re pleased to offer free travel to and from the Isle of Man for the Macmillan Cancer Information Specialists and Basil the information bus. There are so many local people who are living with, or are affected by the disease, so to have such an established cancer charity come over to provide information, guidance and support to island residents is really special and an important initiative.
“We hope lots of local people take up this opportunity to talk to experienced cancer information specialists in a relaxed and confidential setting and look forward to welcoming the charity to the island.”
