The Isle of Man has something for everyone! Find out for yourself below..

Heritage

The Isle of Man is steeped in history with thousands of years of Celtic and Viking heritage to unearth. Visitors are able to step back in time and retrace the Island’s history by taking the Manx National Heritage trail and visiting some of the Island’s most iconic sites. From the magnificent medieval castle, Castle Rushen, to the splendour of the world’s largest working water wheel, the Great Laxey Wheel, it is easy to spend hours getting lost while you discover the Isle of Man’s captivating past.

The Isle of Man boasts three heritage railways which will transport you to your chosen destination in style – the Isle of Man’s Steam Railway, Manx Electric Railway and Snaefell Mountain Railway. Whether you choose to travel by steam or electric you’ll find all three railways preserved in time and operating with some original rolling stock. They are a fun way to visit the Island’s important ancient monuments and heritage sites whilst enjoying beautiful views of the Manx countryside and extensive coast.

Nature

The Island is blessed with a stunning and varied landscape comprising lush valleys, rolling hills, sandy beaches and wooded glens, which are home to a variety of local wildlife. From a colony of wild wallabies in the north, to dolphins and basking sharks swimming in the clear waters, to oystercatchers and lapwings flying overhead, the Isle of Man is a haven for all types of wildlife – you could even catch your first glimpse of the diverse sea life from the deck of the ferry as it takes you over to the Island.

A visit to the Island’s official British Bird Observatory on the Calf of Man, where a range of interesting resident and migrant birds live, is a must for keen birdwatchers. It is also a hotspot for the Island’s seal population, who are often found basking on the surrounding rocks.

Walking

Whether you want to pull on your walking boots and hike into the hills or just enjoy a gentle stroll through the countryside with the family, the Isle of Man has plenty of paths for you to explore the rugged cliffs, rolling hills, picturesque glens, hidden coves and stunning beaches on offer.

The Raad ny Foillan, Manx Gaelic for ‘The Way of the Gull’, is a coastal footpath that was created in 1986 to mark the Island’s ‘Heritage Year’ celebrations. At almost 160 km / 100 miles in length it forms a complete loop of the Manx coastline passing through varying terrain from shingle beaches to 600 feet hills and cliffs. It is perfect for those seeking a challenge but it doesn’t need to be tackled all at once, break it down into smaller stages and enjoy the beautiful coastal surroundings at your own pace.

Cycling

Whether it’s a leisurely cycle on the open roads or a thrilling adventure off the beaten track, our Isle boasts an exhilarating combination of winding country lanes, steep climbs and breathtaking descents. In our opinion, there are few better destinations in the British Isles to enjoy a cycling break, with routes to suit all ages and abilities.

When you travel with us, your journey with your bicycle is made easy. Not only is it simple, it’s also great value as you can bring your bicycle for just £10 each way.

If you’re travelling as a foot passenger, simply ride on board, stow your bicycle in the designated area on the vehicle deck and then relax in one of our lounges while enjoying the crossing, ready to ride off when you reach Douglas. Or, if you’re bringing your vehicle, load your bicycle in your car or on a bike rack, have a look to see which of our great Car Offers would best suit you.

Motorcycling

Home to the world famous TT races founded in 1907 and the World Championship in 1949, today known as MotoGP, the Isle of Man boasts a rich history in racing. While the ‘Tourist Trophy’ is arguably the world’s most famous road race, the TT is just one of many thrilling events held throughout the year.

The Island provides plenty for bikers to experience and enjoy when they visit the historic home of motorcycling. With some fantastic Motorbike Offers available, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is the ideal way to travel with your bike to the Island. Bring your motorbike on board and pack everything you’ll need to start your adventure, as there are no extra luggage fees to worry about.  With a choice of comfortable lounges you can stretch out your legs and unwind with a meal and drink from the café. Before you know it you’ll soon be riding off and enjoying the same roads as your racing heroes.

Planning a trip outside one of the busy race festivals will give you time to explore at your own pace, and discover more of the delights the Island has to offer.

Family Fun

Steeped in history, nature and wonder the ancient kingdom of Mann is packed with lots of exciting things to see and do, making it the perfect family retreat for you and your loved ones.

The Isle of Man is very child-friendly with activities such as hover karting, laser-blasting and bowling and then, of course, there are the Island’s stunning beaches and magnificent coastline.

Family members who are daring will love sea kayaking or paddleboarding around parts of the stunning 95 mile coastline where the secret coves and caves that smugglers once made use of can be discovered. You may even spot a friendly dolphin, basking shark or minky whale.

Even more fun can be had at Ape Mann Adventure Park, where you can climb, swing and zip line through the trees of South Barrule, or perhaps go horse-riding where you can trek across the Island’s beautiful stretches of countryside.

Take advantage of our fabulous Kids Go Free Summer Special and start making family memories the moment you step on board.

Food & Drink

There are cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes, with menus bursting with fresh local produce. From Manx cheeses, smoked kippers and locally reared Loaghtan lamb to succulent queen scallops – or ‘Queenies’ as they are more commonly known – and a wonderful variety of sweet treats, you won’t be disappointed.

No seaside holiday would be complete without an ice cream. There is an array of parlous located on every beach or promenade serving this cooling, creamy treat with over 30 flavours to choose from, including gluten free. The ice cream is made using only the freshest milk from the Island’s dairy farmers, making it a wonderful local delicacy.

You can also enjoy beer and cider from local breweries, Isle of Man-made juices and locally distilled gin.
