TRADITIONAL Manx designs coupled with modern passenger focused service are the way forward for the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company in 2008.
Old blends with new in a passenger focused campaign that was launched at an event on 27 February at the Sefton Hotel. The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company invited guests to see the revamped design at an evening in the stunning Sefton Atrium, with entertainment provided by the Lhon Dhoo Male Voice Choir.
Part of the re-brand will involve Isle of Man Steam Packet Company vessels being renamed and re-branded using a ‘retro’ theme, based on traditional Company designs and colours.
The new logo has been inspired by some of the designs used over the last 178 years and the words ‘Isle of Man’ have also been reintroduced into the design.
To complete vessel re-branding, Superseacat Two is being renamed ‘Viking’; Sea Express 1 (back in service after Easter) will become ‘Snaefell’.
New staff uniforms will be introduced in classic black with ‘retro’ design accessories. These will be worn both ashore and afloat.
Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: “We are pleased to begin the journey back to our Manx roots. It is important that the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, as the Island’s major tourist carrier, projects the image of the Isle of Man in a positive way.
“As well as visible differences, there will be increased focus on our service to passengers. Our new Passenger Manager, Jim Sheppard, will be responsible for delivering service quality and consistency.”
The company is also revising the existing ‘1st’ and ‘Blue Riband’ services. ‘1st’ will be renamed the ‘Manannan Premium Lounge’ and Blue Riband the ‘Manannan Executive Club’. The current ‘Quiet Lounges’ on the ships will become the ‘Niarbyl Lounges’ and will offer reserved seating. All the lounges will feature a plaque depicting the stories behind their new names.
Passengers in these areas will be able to pre-book their seats, and the lounges will be redecorated with the new branding and corporate colours.
Mark continued: “We are looking to combine traditional etiquette with modern service delivery. To achieve this we have also restructured the Passenger Services department and brought all passenger-facing staff into one department to ensure consistency.
“We look forward to this new beginning for the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company – and hope these changes will be embraced and welcomed by our passengers.”
