The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is donating £20,000 worth of brand new clothes to Friends of Chernobyl’s Children.
The donation includes hundreds of high quality shirts, skirts, jackets, ties and hats in various colours and sizes. Charity representative, Norman Rivers, received the clothes from the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and is arranging for them to be taken to Belarus later in the year.
Friends of Chernobyl's Children was started in Lancashire in 1994 by one woman and has spread nationwide over the years. The main aim of the charity's work is to bring the children of Belarus away from that seriously contaminated environment, in order to detoxify their immune systems and to provide dental, optical and health checks. During their month's stay in the Isle of Man the children live with host families and enjoy a friendly stable environment, nourishing food and a variety of activities.
Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: “We’re really pleased that we can offer these clothes to Friends of Chernobyl’s Children, which will put them to such good use in a region where people have so very little”.
